Early Career Network
The Early Career Network was established in 2018 and aims to provide support and guidance for professionals across all disciplines of geoscience, recognising the varied needs of geologists working in different sectors. Whilst principally aimed at those who are within the first 10 years of their geoscientific careers, the network is open to anyone who is interested in its activities.
Activities
The Early Career Network (ECN) operates as a sub-group of the Geological Society and actively looks to collaborate with the specialist and regional groups, as well as external companies other professional societies, to provide value for our members.
Areas of focus include providing early career professionals a range of opportunities for networking, mentoring, continual professional development and personal upskilling. The group is also a proponent of the society’s Chartership scheme and aims to support its members towards professional accreditation.
For more information about the Network, its planned activities, or to get involved, please check out the Network on its various social media platforms.

Early Career Geologist Award
The ECN now hosts the Early Career Geologist Award – an annual competition which invites the winners of regional heats to the final where participants give a presentation to a panel of expert judges on a project they have worked on.
The 2024 final was held as an online event in May, and saw Harry Wild from the Western Regional Group chosen as the winner.
Congratulations again to Harry, who received the geological trophy. Congratulations also go to the five other finalists.
More details will be shared shortly relating to the 2025 Award - stay tuned for details!
Events
The ECN has and continues to provide a variety of online and in-person events for its members, including webinars, lectures, panel discussions, careers talks, networking sessions, software demonstrations and online courses.
