Library Closure 2021 - COVID-19

Following the latest government guidance related to COVID-19 the Library will remain closed until further notice. See all available Library services.

Library reopening – September 2020

We are delighted to be able to reopen the Library to Fellows, Friends and Corporate Patrons from Thursday 10 September. Initially, our opening hours will be restricted to 11.00am to 3.00pm on Thursdays.

Access will be by appointment, booked at least 48 hours in advance. We hope to gradually extend our opening hours in the coming months, and will keep all users informed.

In order to keep our Library users and staff safe you will find some aspects of your visit a little different to normal. We appreciate your patience and support at this time.

All users are asked to familiarise themselves with these new procedures ahead of their visit:

  • An appointment is essential for all visitors
  • Material must be requested in advance as browsing of the Library's shelves will not be permitted
  • You will be assigned a desk to which material will be delivered ahead of your arrival
  • Since 8 August it is a legal requirement to wear a face covering in all areas of the Library (unless you are exempt)
  • Please maintain a 1m distance from others where possible
  • Staff handling Library material for users will wear PPE, including gloves and face masks
  • After consultation, material will be quarantined for 72 hours before being handled again
  • The photocopier/scanner/printer will be disinfected after each use
  • Dedicated toilet facilities will be made available for Library users
  • We encourage you to bring bottled water with you – the tea/coffee machine will not be available
  • Payment for photocopying and other charged services will be taken by card only

For the time being, material from the Archive will not be available for consultation.

To book an appointment, please email with the date of your preferred Thursday.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Library soon!
