Paying for your membership

Pay online

You can renew your Fellowship at any time via our renewals payment form, logging in by clicking the 'Login' button on the top right of this page. To log in, you will need the email address you used to register with the Society.

Pay over the phone

Please ring our dedicated membership renewals payment team on +44 (0)207 434 9944 to renew your 2022 membership.

Pay by Direct Debit

Direct DebitYou can pay in one, two or 12 instalments by Direct Debit. For new direct debit payers, please renew via MyGSL and select payment type 'Direct Debit'. The deadline for setting up monthly payments is 20 October 2021.

Your fees will be collected on the 10th day of the next available month. Please allow at least 15 days to set up your new Direct Debit instruction. An email confirmation will be sent to you once your Direct Debit has been set up, from the Society and from our Direct Debit service provider ‘BPS’ (using the following email suffix: ‘’).

Membership fee due dates

You can renew your membership via MyGSL from 1 October 2021.

In accordance with the Society's Bye-laws, we offer a generous window of eight months within which you can renew your Fellowship. We strongly advise you to renew before 1 December 2021 so that we can send you your membership card and pack for 2022. All non-payers will lose access to free journals and other services after 31 March 2022.

New membership fee categories

Our membership categories have been compressed from 17 into 10 based on where you are in your geoscience career. Our goal is to become a fairer Society for all.

Your details

A renewal letter will be posted or emailed to you shortly after 1 October 2021, outlining your current subscription options and balance. 

Please log in to the MyGSL portal if you wish to update your name, address, telephone number or employment status.

Reinstatement of lapsed Fellowship

Membership lapsed in June 2021

If your membership lapsed due to non-payment of fees for 2020, you can still pay for your 2020 fees and reinstate your membership by calling our office on +44 (0)20 7434 9944.

Membership lapsed before 2020

If your membership lapsed in or prior to 2020, you will need to reapply and be reelected. Please log in to MyGSL and apply via the online form.

Combined journal offer

The Society offers a 'Two for One' offer on the Journal of the Geological Society (JGS) and the Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology (QJEGH).

Discounted subscriptions

Discounted subscriptions to Geology published by the Geological Society of America's and Geology Today published by Wiley. 

Membership of the Geological Society Discussion Group

The Discussion Group hosts six to seven dinners a year at a number of different venues in London, including Burlington House, with a wide range of speakers and topics.

  • £30 for annual membership (reduced to £15 for those living more than 100 miles from central London) entitles members to discounted rates for meetings
